Our History, Membership, and Purpose...

Since its inception in 1964, the Atlanta Ski Club has always been centered around people. As a non-profit organization, the ASC is not about revenue, growth, or profitability. The Atlanta Ski Club has grown to be one of the largest and most successful ski clubs in the world because it is run by our members - the very people who you'll meet at ASC functions. Guests and new members are encouraged to participate in just one event, be it an evening concert at Chastain, or a week-long ski/board trip, and they will uncontrollably discover new friends. Our monthly socials draw hundreds of people, anxious to catch up with the friends they made from past trips. Another pride of the ski club is that most members remain members throughout their lives, often returning even through relocations and the rest of changes life offers. No, you do not have to live in Atlanta to be a member of the Atlanta Ski Club! In fact 20% of our members live outside the state of Georgia, some reaching as far as Europe.

How We're Organized... The club is run by the volunteer Board of Directors, Trip Leaders, and committees. Supported by a permanent office and full-time staff, the Atlanta Ski Club is constantly seeking new things to do. Every member is welcome to participate in an array of volunteer opportunities. Joining one of our committees - which include Adventure, Fundraising, Ski Trips, Membership/Social, eCommunications/Publicity, Ski Show / Swap Shop - is a great way to have fun and meet new people. In the Fall, we also publish our Ski Adventure Magazine, where we detail all our ski trips for the upcoming year.

ASC Ski/Board Trips...

Our numerous ski/board trips each winter usually include an entire week centered around a primary resort. Though, due to frequency, any resort is usually one of many, we often find ourselves hopping to nearby locations to ski or ride for the day. We also tend to offer a few "mini-week" trips for those that can't get away for an entire week. Members can purchase our complete air and lodgings package or can purchase lodging only. You can take your own skis/board or rent them slopeside. And every resort offers professional lessons from beginner to expert. Generally ranging from 40 to120 people, our trips include a spectrum of skiers and abilities - from beginner to the black diamond veterans.  Yet, at the end of the day, everyone joins equally as they seek out dining options and the evening's entertainment.

But I Don't Ski/Board Well (or At All!) Neither do some of our most active members! If you'd like to learn, participate in our "Learn to Ski" weekends, or take inexpensive group lessons that are offered at our distant trip or local trip destinations.

But there is far more to the Atlanta Ski Club that the snows of winter. Concerts at Chastain, day hikes in the Appalachians, forays to the jungles of South America and the Amazon River, whitewater rafting in Tennessee, Caribbean nights on a Windjammer, and volleyball are just a few of the ways we play during the rest of the year. If you're interested in events other than skiing, feel free to check out our Activities section.

We hope to see you soon!
